Clarkson Construction served as the sponsor for Gateway Interchange Constructors (GIC) â€� a joint venture between Clarkson (65%), and Kiewit Infrastructure Group (35%) â€� on the Johnson County Gateway design-build project for the ÄϹ¬NGÓéÀÖ Department of Transportation (KDOT). This $288 million “set valueâ€� venture required the proposer to define the project scope for $285 million with the additional $3 million being an allowed incentive once the project was completed by December 31, 2016 â€� seven months ahead of the required completion date. Traffic flows were strategically maintained throughout the three-year project â€� providing minimal delay to the 230,000 travelers that commute through this central corridor daily.

Project included reconstruction and capacity improvements from I-435 eastbound to U.S. 69, from K-10/I-435 north to 95th Street, K-10 from westbound I-435 to Woodland Road and northbound I-35 from the I-435 interchange to 95th Street. It also included reconstruction and reconfiguration of the interchanges of I-435 & I-35, I-435 & Lackman Road, I-435 & K-10, K-10 and Renner Road, K-10 and Ridgeview Road and I-35 & 95th Street. The project also included Renner Road, Lackman Road, Pflumm Road at I-435, Pflumm Road at I-35, and College Boulevard from Renner Road to Ridgeview Road.

A total of 27 bridges were redesigned/rehabilitated for this project, including two large structural steel flyovers, a large precast concrete beam flyover, eight precast concrete beam bridges, two structural steel bridges and four precast concrete bridges. A total of 146,000 sf of bridge decks were installed, as well as 200,000 sf of Mechanically Stabilized Earth walls (MSE) and 30,000 sf noise walls. Specialty construction items included traffic signals, highway lighting, highway signing, numerous utility relocations, traffic control, pavement marking, erosion control, seeding and mulching.
